Be SpectACTive! 2: creations, co-productions, meetings, digital networks – so many projects!
Be SpectACTive! is a project designed to foster engagement by citizens and spectators in performing arts (programming, creation, etc.). For the second season of this Europe-wide venture, Occitanie en scène is supporting seven organisations in the Occitanie-Pyrénées Méditerranée region:
Le Périscope (Nîmes), Derrière le Hublot (Capdenac-Gare), Mélando (Saint-Martin-de-Londres), L’Atelline (Juvignac), Théâtre Albarède (Ganges), Théâtre du Grand Rond (Toulouse), as well as Réseau RP (a network of professionals in public relations).
The European Spectactor Day
The European Spectactor Day allows the European committees all to meet up once a year via Facebook at the same time on the same day. Spectator committees in Occitanie were invited to meet up last 16 November for this special day in Claret (Hérault). The Mélando association hosted partners from the Occitanie region. The programme included a meeting of spectator communities and discussions on the topic of the Be SpectACTive! project. To conclude, a performance of “Miettes” by the Clous Association before going on with discussions via the Facebook page.
The productions and the people
Another facet of the project is the coproduction of international performances.
After a number of creative residencies for its show The Other Map in Zagreb (Croatia), Toulouse (France) and Ljubljana (Slovenia), Colectivo Ameno put on its first performance of it in Santander (Spain) on 18 October 2019 on the occasion of a meeting of all the European partners organised by Café de las Artes (the project’s Spanish partner).

The next production is a choreographed work entitled Playing Reality performed by two Croatian artistes, Koraljka Begović and Nastasja Štefanić, with as executive producer Domino from Zagreb. After two periods working in Prague and Gothenburg, the team will be hosted from 6 to 17 April 2020 by the Albarède Theatre in Ganges (Hérault) during its residency in Occitanie.
Making a Be SpectACTive! production: the outcome of thinking together in Occitanie
As a partner of the project, Occitanie en scène will also be the executive producer of an artistic creation which will of course be developed with the regional partners involved. The production in common will be built round at least four residencies, three of which will be in different European countries.
The coproducers who will be hosting this production in Europe from July 2020 to October 2021 are Kilowatt Festival/CapoTrave (Italy), Stora teatern / Gothenburg dance and theatre festival (Sweden) and the Divadelná Nitra International Drama Festival (Slovakia). Project selection will also involve the spectator committees which will be taking part in planning each of the steps in the life cycle of a performance and putting their wishes to the service of its creation.
Many meetings in Europe in store, such as Brussels and Courtrai
The 2019/2021 is rich in meetings and places for the partners, with meetings in Santander (October), Budapest (December, Courtrai and Brussels (January), Ljubljana (March), Vienna (April), Zagreb (June) and San Sepolcro in Italy where there will be an international conference of research teams (July).
The second Be SpectACTive! 2 press conference was on 13 February 2020. All the partners met up for the first time in 2020, starting with Brussels and then Courtrai at the BUDA cultural centre. A Serbian coproduction (« Assimilate », by Saša Kraga, Vojvodjanski Tamburaški Orkestar) was selected at this meeting and will be the resident guest in Occitanie.
The final meeting of community managers was on the 14th and 15th of February where they selected the artistic proposals for productions by partners from the Czech Republic (Tanec Praha) and Serbia (SKCNS: Institution Student Cultural Center of Novi Sad). Each meeting was organised on the occasion of the first performance of a production by the Be SpectACTive network.
